Spotlight on Intellectual Disability Psychiatry
Championing Intellectual Disability Psychiatry Through Creative Collaboration
We were extremely proud to contribute to a powerful project that highlights the vital work of psychiatrists specialising in intellectual disability psychiatry.
As part of this initiative, our talented role player George took a leading role in two compelling short films, both created to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The first film, Together We Helped My Life Regain Shape, uses poetry as a creative and emotive lens to explore the lived experiences of people with intellectual disabilities. Through carefully crafted verse and visual storytelling, the film brings to life the barriers they often encounter and the transformative impact of compassionate, specialist psychiatric care.
The second film, RCPsych Meets Dr Kathleen Levick, showcases an example consultation between a psychiatrist and a patient. George’s authentic and nuanced performance powerfully demonstrates best practice in communication, empathy, and clinical engagement when working with people with intellectual disabilities.
These films form part of a broader campaign by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, aiming to increase visibility and appreciation for the specialty of intellectual disability psychiatry. The campaign also seeks to inspire more medical professionals to consider this rewarding and impactful field.
We are honoured to have played a part in such a meaningful initiative one that blends creativity, clinical insight, and lived experience to promote inclusion, understanding, and equity in mental health care.
