Meeting the METIman

Our London role players got the opportunity to meet the METIman, a wireless patient simulator that has been specifically created for medical training. This training experience offered by the GMC, allowed the role players to familiarise themselves with the machine, in order to portray healthcare professionals in real-life situations.

Some of our role players had the pleasure of meeting the METIman before, whereas others had not. After gazing at the chest of the patient simulator breathing in and out and watching him blink, we began the session. It was very rewarding to watch the role players improve as the day progressed. Initially wary of placing implements such as a cannula near the plastic arm, they soon became comfortable. In a short amount of time they moved to the doctor's every command with ease.

In the debriefing, the role players corroborated that the training session had been extremely useful. They felt far more comfortable portraying healthcare professionals than they did before and were eager to put their learning into practice.

We would like to thank the co-ordinators at the GMC for arranging this interesting and vital teaching experience. The day was extremely informative and fun. We look forward to the next session.
