| Snakes and Ladders |
Situation‘Snakes & Ladders’, was a pioneering programme which was launched in association with Gt Ormond Street Hospital. It used role play and interactive learning to replace sterile ‘clinical effectiveness’ for teaching sessions. The aim was to highlight doctors, nurses and other staff to smooth the journey of children and their families through the system at GOSH. Looking at topic areas like: Breaking Bad News, Hospital Management, Saying Sorry and Terminal Care. SolutionEach month integral members of the multidisciplinary team met at GOSH to plan the next topic area. These discussions were translated into a dramatic format aimed at raising awareness and stimulating debate. We carefully prepared the role players each time and highlighted the important issues that needed to be raised. The core group of role players returned each month to make this a real life journey. ResultAttendance levels increased at these monthly meetings, and we attained a following of medical personnel that wanted to experience firsthand, what was going to happen to our family? They were very interested in all the variable concerns that were raised and solutions were discussed and thereafter acted upon in the workplace. |
